POKOTABI / Uotsugu
うお継
Zoshigaya's Uotsugu serves limited-portion daily seafood bowls tailored to the morning catch, along with Hokkaido bowls and hearty sashimi set meals complete with small sides, soup, and sweets.
01 / ABOUT THE PLACE
When you want the deep satisfaction of fresh seafood over warm rice, Uotsugu in Zoshigaya is a dependable midday destination. Standing out on the handwritten menu is the Kimagure Kaisendon, a limited-quantity chef's-choice seafood bowl whose toppings change with each morning's market haul. Depending on the day, slices might range from tuna to salmon and bonito, delivering rich, pristine flavor at an approachable set-meal price.
Every set meal and rice bowl comes thoughtfully appointed with miso soup, pickled vegetables, a small side dish, and even a sweet treat like a traditional manju bun. Diners can upsize their rice to a large portion, making it easy to dig generously into the pairing of fresh fish and steamed white grains. For an even more lavish bowl, the Hokkai-don brings together a colorful array of sea urchin, salmon roe, crab, and salmon.
Beyond the bowls, the kitchen turns out a diverse lineup of grilled fish, including slow-broiled silver cod marinated in Saikyo sweet miso (gindara saikyo-yaki) and grilled coho salmon, alongside sashimi sets that let you sample several cuts side by side. Counter and table seating occupy the 1st floor, supplemented by 2nd-floor seating, creating a relaxed setting to enjoy lunch with a large bottle of beer or regional sake.
